Community Support

The Independence Branch of AAUW supports our local community in many ways.  Each year our branch contributes $1500 to local scholarships for students who have attended Independence Public Schools and have been recognized for their leadership, citizenship and academic achievements.  One student from each of the high schools in Independence, selected by the individual school, receives a scholarship from our branch.  For 2021, the branch was able to raise that amount to $750 due to a generous donation. Funds are also given to the Inter-branch Council (IBC) of Kansas City for re-entry scholarships to support women who are returning to school to continue their education.

Members of the Independence Branch of AAUW volunteer time to serve the Salvation Army Bell Ringers Program. In addition, the branch selects specific organizations and non-profits, primarily in our community, to support each year with financial contributions.
